Awakening the Global Mind
A New Philosophy For Healing Ourselves and Our World
by Ashok Gangadean, Ph.D.
Ashok Gangadean takes us on a world tour of philosophies and dogmas in this new audio course from Sounds True.
Convinced that the time has come at last when we can reach beyond the limits of our small mental village and embrace
the wisdom of the Logos, Gangadean gives us an overview of philosophies from ancient to contemporary, placing them in
context as he goes, and explaining why ancient thought is the foundation of future peace. Buddha, Arjuna, Kant,
Descartes, and all the other great minds, says Gangadean, were accessing the same Sophia wisdom, but expressing their
discoveries in different words.
He urges us to develop a new language for expressing and explaining the profound spiritual ideals in order to
connect the truths that all cultures access, pointing out that division in language tends to create division among
people. "We can’t cross into the unified field... using the old tools," he points out. The language with which we
communicate our knowledge is derailed when syntax builds a wall. In turn, a new language will allow us to restructure
our concepts and our personal connection with Logos.
Ashok Gangadean is chairman of philosophy at Haverford College, and the author of several books, including
Meditative Reason: Toward
Universal Grammar. These six CDs that run more than seven hours are filled with Gangadean’s passion for
philosophy, giving the listener a crash course in the history of philosophical thought in a way that is far more
interesting and relevant than that course we suffered through at school. The six sessions cover the quest for global
wisdom, the technology of consciousness, the source of human pathologies, dualism and chronic fragmentation, crossing
into the logosphere, and personal and cultural healing. This course is all substance, so be prepared to think as you
listen.
In the manner of Joseph Campbell, Gangadean often gets carried away with his subject and gleefully dives into the
amazing similarities among philosophies and mythologies to solidly prove the point that Awakening the Global
Mind is here to make —"what shows up on the screen of awareness is... filtered through the consciousness
of the thinker." In other words, we are all part of the one whole and our arguments with each other do not exist
outside our own misunderstanding of each other’s grammar.
Gangadean’s audio course is a treasure simply for its clean, clear, and exciting discussion of the history of
philosophy. The author’s assertion that we have the capability to unify ourselves with the global mind, and his
ability to provide supporting thought to back his theory are encouraging, optimistic, and eminently practical. |
