Successful Small Groups:
From Concept to Practice

by Teena M. Stewart

Successful Small Groups: From Concept to Practice provides a wealth of information on how to form and succeed in keeping your group energized. It encourages small groups leaders to lead with an open mind and a receiving heart. It provides countless creative examples of what has been successful in other churches. I was so impressed by what had worked at other churches, I plan to pass on several of their techniques to my own small group leader.

Last year I made the spiritual decision to seek other opportunities to practice my Christian faith elsewhere. Having been raised in a strict Southern Baptist denomination, I was unsure of where my journey would lead but I knew that an inner voice inside me was calling out "trust in the Lord for he will lead you to where you need to be." My journey led me to a contemporary church that was which with so much positive spiritual energy. I knew from the first time I visited that this is where the Lord had intended me to seek and find.

One of the things that was so foreign to me about my new church was that this church did not have a traditional Sunday School; instead they worshipped in each others' homes and referred to it as small groups. I was nervous about the first small group I attended. The concept that religion could be taught effectively outside the church was a hard concept to accept. Amazing small groups do work and bring a church and its congregation closer together.

For any church that is thinking of implementing small groups in their own establishment, this is the first book you need to read on the subject. My experience with small groups has been very positive. I feel that they provide a more relaxed atmosphere to freely worship. The people who attend in your small group quickly become your second family. When the opportunity came up to review Teena M. Stewart’s book Successful Small Groups: From Concept to Practice, I felt once again a voice was calling me to speak up and review this book. I am so glad that I listened once again to my inner voice, for this book has been priceless. Very highly recommended.
