“Social
anxiety is the self-consciousness on steroids. First there
is a sense of being consciousness, of sticking out a like
a sore thumb. There follows an urge to hide, to conceal, sometimes
by staying away altogether, sometimes by showing up but remaining
silent or staring intently at the floor.” -

With this audiobook, the author “promises
to shine a bright light of your brain, keep what’s working,
discard what’s not, and load you up with tools to nudge
you in the direction you want to go.” Her goal is to
help you overcome anxiety, or as she puts it retrain yourself
and let the true you shine. The author does this in an intelligent,
empathetic manner. She gives sound advice and personal examples
such as what it was like to walking through a store and putting
a large amount of water, bananas, etc into her car and how
fear and her mind worked while she was doing it. She also
includes tips to help you along. I found it so much more revealing
than other personal improvement books, maybe because the author
once suffered anxiety herself. Ms Hendriksen’s teachings
are sound. Her confident, reassuring, and sometimes humorous
narration is a true indication the author has found her true
self, and we can too.
