Best-selling
author of The Plan, The Plan Cookbook, and accompanying
workbooks, Lyn-Genet Recitas offers an expanded version of
her holistic health and nutrition plan – this time including
a way of testing exercise and food reactions. Her premise,
that certain foods and exercises cause inflammation leading
to discomfort, weight gain, and disease, is backed by science
and clinical trials. This audiobook provides a 3-day cleanse
followed by 27 more days of experimenting with different foods
and exercises to test for reactivity (as defined by weight
gain and differences in body temperature upon awakening).
One of the key elements of this book is determining a personalized
plan for weight loss and good health, because a healthy food
for one person is not necessarily a healthy food for someone
else. The author’s plan to boost metabolism as a means
of burning fat and having more energy involves first purchasing
a digital thermometer, digital scale, and a long list of healthy
vegetables, fruits, herbs, spices, and supplements. Recitas
gives specific instructions how to test for food and exercise
reactions. Her instructions for food preparation and exercise
routines are less detailed.
A PDF that accompanies the CDs lists common foods and their
reactivity percentages, and gives daily menu plans for 30
days. The recipes are included in the text, but not provided
on the PDF, which creates a bit of challenge. Readers can
copy the recipes from the audio portion, use the same recipes
from her earlier books, or search online to find most of the
recipes used in this new book. It would have made things easier
for the reader to have the recipes on the PDF along with the
daily menu plans. Food preparation takes a little time, but
is not difficult. Some of the dishes can be made in large
quantities and frozen for later use. Many of these low-reactive,
healthy recipes also are quite delicious, including the apple
streusel (breakfast) and spicy coco sauce (vegetable topping).
Read by Carolyn Cook in a clear, friendly voice, this audiobook
expounds upon the author’s earlier work, but also covers
some of the same material explored in the first book. There’s
also some repetition when the daily menu plans are described
(such as the same salads on different days and the repeated
portion sizes for men and women), but this may be necessary
to ensure clarity. Despite the organizational issues and repetition
of material, The Metabolism Plan is an important book because
it offers readers a proven method for achieving and sustaining
good health for a lifetime.
