Black God - Volume II
by Dall-Young Lim and Sung-Woo Park
In volume I (also reviewed on this site)
would-be game designer Keita Ibuki lost an arm, gained another and made a pact with an immortal being all in one
night. Now Kuro, the mototsumitama who saved his life is staying with him and trying to get to grips with living in
the human realm. But she is not the only being of her kind around town, and soon she finds herself and Keita pitted
against an enemy, in an attempt to save Keita’s best friend Akane.
The first book set it all up, now sit back and enjoy the action. Artist Sung-Woo Park has produced some wonderful
artwork for this series, full of grace and power which comes into its own when the characters fight. There is quite
a lot of fighting in this volume, so plenty to admire as you wonder who is going to win this particular round. We
also learn some more about the mototsumitama, and if, like this reviewer, you are a fantasy fan yearning for a
different flavour to Tolkein, this Far Eastern brand of fantasy will be doubly welcome. Words and pictures fit
each other like two halves of a whole, and if you weren’t sure before what manga (or manhwa) was all about, have a
look at this series. |
