Isle of Fire
by Wayne Thomas Batson
In this sequel to Isle of Swords (also reviewed
on Myshelf.com) most of the good guys and bad guys are back — with a few extra surprises thrown in including
the Merchant (a character who made me think constantly of the creepy Emperor in Star Wars) and a horde of
seriously tough Vikings. Once again, Cat is at odds with his evil heritage as son of despicable pirate Bartholomew
Thorne. Cat worries about whether he will overcome his dark side or end up consumed by evil like his father.
Cat has joined the Brethren in their mission to overcome an even greater evil — the Merchant, a shadowy
figure who lives to feed the needs of the evildoers. Cat isn't the only one with a mission, reformed pirate Declan
Ross is certain Bartholomew Thorne is still alive and his mission is to find the evil pirate and put an end to his
vicious marauding once and for all.
Slowly, the different missions find themselves coming together — the good and the evil for the showdown to
end all showdowns. It's rip-roaring action for any pirate adventure fan with high-raising stunts, near misses,
explosions, and plenty of swordplay. The ending of this novel called out less loudly for a next installment —
but you never know. Wherever evil sails the high seas, the good men of this series may just be called upon
to return, bringing an exciting time to readers again. |
