Ninth Grade Slays
The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, book 2
by Heather Brewer
In this sequel to Eighth Grade Bites (also
reviewed on Myshelf), Vlad is still hiding the fact that he is half vampire from everyone except Henry and Nelly.
Things are looking up though...he and his vampire uncle, Otis, are planning a trip to Siberia where Vlad will meet
friends of his late father, and will be taught better use of his abilities by Vikas, a very old vampire. He learns
how to manage telepathy and mind control and other vampire skills. He also learns about the myth of the Pravus...Otis
and Vikas think Vlad just might be that vampire of prophecy.
But things are not going well back home in Bathory. Henry's cousin, Joss, seems to want to be Vlad's friend, but
he is attracted to Meredith, the girl Vlad seriously wants to date, if he could just work up the nerve to ask her.
Then Vlad becomes aware that he is being hunted by a dreaded vampire slayer, and a boy from his class seems to have
discovered Vlad's secret.
Brewer has just the right touch in this action packed vampire story. Vlad, Henry, Otis and Nellie are compelling
characters you learn to love, and the bad guys are just as realistic. Even if you are not especially fond of
vampires, this is a great story, and highly recommended for teens and tweens. |
