The Temptress Four
by Gaby Triana
In The Temptress Four, Fiona, Alma, Killian and Yoli are determined to enjoy the graduation-gift cruise, but
on the night before they sail Fiona drags them into a fortune-teller's booth and the girls hear a chilling fortune
about strife and bonds broken. Then, the girls are warned that one of them will not be returning from the cruise.
With this bit of doom hanging over them, it doesn't take long for strife to start as the girls head off to sea. Will
the rest of the prophecy hold true as well? Fiona frets over which of her friends might not return: thrill-seeker
Killian? Hot-headed, protective Alma? Or Yoli, the sheltered innocent? The Temptress Four is marked by lively,
fast-moving writing with characters who truly come alive on the page. Fiona's voice, as the main character, and the
one wanting most to hold the group together, is vulnerable and believable. Early on we realize Fiona's perceptions
might not be entirely true and part of the enjoyment of the novel is reading between the lines to determine what is
really going on with Fiona's relationship with her boyfriend and her friends. I particularly liked the feeling of
real relationships, instead of the superficial cattiness of so many teen girl novels - these friends truly care
about one another, even when they're annoyed or fighting. Fast-paced but not fluffy - this is a great, engaging
read. |
