Y Square
by Judith Park
Yoshitaka Kogirei thinks he is hot stuff; but with his cheesy come-on lines and overly direct approach the girls
don’t agree with him. When he sees new classmate, Yagate Sotogawa, surrounded by adoring girls he wants in on the
secret. Friendly Yagate (but why is he friendly?) tells him that he is one of the judges of the school’s beauty
contest and agrees to give him some tips. This is a sure sign that everything is going to go seriously pear-shaped...
A whole manga in one book? Yen Press continues to surprise and delight with another entertaining tale, this one
set in a school and miles away from fantasy. It is the sort of story that will have anybody who is in, or has ever
been to high school nodding and smiling immediately as goofy no-hoper Yoshitaka digs himself in deeper, upsetting
girl after girl. The illustrations suit the story to perfection, with nubile young girls in very short sailor suit
school uniforms and pretty boys getting seriously hot under the collar. This is the sort of story that is going to
appeal equally to boys and girls - adults, too! |
