Burn

by Suzanne Phillips

It seems like every time I pick up a newspaper or magazine there are articles that are related in some way to this book. There is unspeakable violence and cases of children either bullied to the point of despair, or bullied to the point of retaliation in almost every weekly newscast.

In Suzanne Phillips's book Burn, young Cameron has entered the ninth grade at the age of fourteen and finds himself the target of a group of popular jock-type kids. A friendship from grade school is misconstrued as something else and that is all the fuel the bullies need.

At first, Cameron thinks he can tough it out and they will move on to someone else, but when he loses the respect of his younger brother he ultimately feels pushed to strike back.

How much can a person take before they are forced to do the most horrifying thing of all?  Burn takes the reader into the mind, heart and soul of a troubled and tormented teen. Burn proves that bullying is a serious problem and should be dealt with in a serious manner.
