The Comet's Curse
A Galahad Book

by Dom Testa

In the not-too-distant future, a comet passes close to the earth, losing particles into the earth's atmosphere. Those particles doom mankind to a slow death by illness -- every adult is affected, and every child becomes susceptible as soon as they reach adulthood. In an effort to save a portion of humanity, the Galahad Project is launched. A crew of 251 teens are sent into space on a long-term mission to an earth-like planet where they may be able to begin a new life. But not everyone thinks Galahad is a good idea, and soon the lives of everyone are dependent upon the quick thinking of a single teen-aged girl. The book combines edge-of- our-seat suspense with strongly appealing characters. Though some of the logic of the illness seemed a little contrived, I found it easy to suspend disbelief over the terrific teen crew of the Galahad -- their actions, emotions and needs were totally real. And the laughs from the all-too-human onboard computer offer a nice respite from the story tension. With the potential for calamity in any long-term space mission, this series has the potential to keep readers on the edge of their seats for years to come. I'm delighted to see Tor Teen is keeping thrilling science fiction alive for the slightly nerdy teen in all of us.
