Peace, Love, and Baby Ducks
by Lauren Myracle
Fifteen year old Carly has always been close to her younger sister, Anna. But their
relationship changes drastically when, over the course of the summer, Anna develops into a
beauty, with breasts that catch everyone's attention. Suddenly Anna gets all the attention
that Carly craves. Their sheltered lives in a world of wealth and privilege are portrayed
with great insight by Myracle. When Carly's world as she knows it crumbles, especially
her relationship with her little sister, she must learn to deal with the reality of who
each of them is and the fact that life is not what she thought it would be.
Myracle is able to show us the humor in the abrasive relationship that develops between
these sisters as they grow and change, and learn again how much they mean to each other.
The characters are easy to visualize, and might even remind us of our own sibling
relationships. The complicated and fast paced plot kept me reading from start to satisfying
finish. This unvarnished story is moving and realistic as Carly and Anna learn to support
each other. |
