Monster High
by Lisi Harrison
What if your teenager was a monster, like Frankenstein? Worse, yet,
what if you were that teenager and were trying to blend in at a
high school with normal human children? You could understand some
of what fifteen-year old-Frankie Stein went through as she started
to school for the first time.
Actually, Frankie was only fifteen days old. After her father finished
building her and her parents awakened her, her father downloaded
a full year’s worth of information, development and memories
into her computerized brain each day. Thus, Frankie saw herself
as an average fifteen-year-old who had never been out of the house.
But today would be different. Today, Frankie was going to school!
There was something about her parents she didn’t understand.
They had told her how the “normies” had felt about her
kind ever since movies were made about Frankenstein, who was Frankie’s
grandfather, Dracula and others, portraying them as true monsters.
If her parents had acted like those movie characters, she’d
have been frightened of them too. But they hadn’t. So, why
were people still afraid of them? The only solution Frankie could
see was to shun the makeup and clothes go looking like herself,
mint-colored skin, bolts, seams and all.
“Monster High” is a book for all teens. There, you will
learn that bullying takes many forms. Just ostracizing those who
are “different” or “not cool” is still a
form of bullying, making them uncomfortable about themselves. Who
are you to say you’re better than anyone? Look to your own
behavior and set the best example.
Though Frankie and her friends don’t look like normal teens,
they have the same feelings and desires as other teens. Frankie
loves to shop for clothes, makeup and electronics. Read “Monster
High” and think about it.
