Sir Quinlan and the Swords of Valor
Knights of Arrethtrae, Book 5
by Chuck Black
In
his series, “The Knights of Arrethtrae,” author Chuck
Black details what life is like for a Christian. He doesn’t
paint the picture of an easy life of comfort. To follow the Prince
completely, one must be willing to give up everything, go wherever
he or she is sent, and be willing to undergo any hardship for the
sake of the King and His Son.
It takes great strength of character to follow the Prince so completely
that men and women take up the sword and a military lifestyle and
daily risk death to bring hope to a troubled world. One such knight
is Quinlan, an orphan who was taken in and raised by his best friend’s
family, which raised him as their own. He had a nervous tick in
his cheek when he was afraid or upset. Though he was terrified,
he makes that commitment. Immediately, the pet paytha he’d
adopted attacks him. Quinlan, known as Twitch, struggles to get
the animal off him, even trying to kill it. Only the scent of another
human makes the little beast turn him loose. When the paytha leaves
him, he feels strangely free.
Sir Quinlan joins a unit called the Swords of Valor, an elite force
that protects important people. But he feels he failed on his first
mission when his commander was killed and the unit disbanded.
Sir Quinlan and the Swords of Valor is one of the best
Christian allegories I’ve ever read. I love this series and
highly recommend all five of the books in the series for readers
from teenagers on up. The novels tell the truth when they say that
a Christian’s life is never boring, safe, easy or predictable.
