The Pack
by L. M. Preston
We
know Mars as the "Red Planet," a place that is likely
devoid of life, but in L. M. Preston's colorfully imagined world
of 2161, Mars has been given attributes that make it livable. The
government has decided to colonize Mars with criminals, much like
Earth's Australia. However, the criminals have an agenda of their
own, and enslaving adults, and kidnapping children figure into their
plans. An elite Security Force has been created to try to control
the criminals.
Teen-aged Shamira is not going to let them get away with kidnapping
her beloved younger brother. Her parents are both part of the Security
Force, and though she is blind, she has some super-powers and special
weapons to help her in her quest to save her brother. Then in a
ground-breaking operation, her vision is not only restored, but
enhanced. Still, finding and rescuing her brother from another world
is not going to be easy.
The characters of The Pack are exciting and believable,
and there is lots of fast action. Fantasy fans with active imaginations
will find this story engrossing and memorable. L. M. Preston who
first caught our interest with Explorer X - Alpha, has definitely
found her niche, and I'm sure that we can expect many more great
fantasies from her.
