I don’t usually read young adult novels, but the cover of this book intrigued me, reminding me of a princess and a thug for some reason. I don’t know why the cover generated such a reaction , but the book itself was a far cry from anything thuggish in nature, let me tell you. Doing My Own Thing by Nikki Carter surprised the heck out of me, thank you very much, especially the character of Sunday.

This book appealed to me because of the pop and reality scene. There are so many reality shows on television, not to mention music shows like The X factor, The Voice, Sing Off, and many more. I found myself intrigued from page one, and surprised that I was enjoying a young adult book.

Sunday is young, and she has to face a lot of challenges to understand the realities of life, and who her friends are. She almost reminds me of Lucky in Jackie Collins’ books. Sunday wants to live her dream, but will she pay the price for it?

This is the 3rd installment in Nikki Carter’s Fab Life series. I will purchase the other two installments, and continue to read these reality-based books about the lives of teens in our very populated world. Would I buy another Nikki Carter book? I think I just answered that, but in case you missed it, yes, and double yes.

Doing Your Own Thing speaks volumes about living your life to make you happy, and helping others, but helping yourself first. Sunday follows a pattern and faces challenges just like every other person in the world. You will want to read this book to find out if Sunday was able to meet her challenges. I recommend this book for both adults and young adults alike.

Nikki Carter is a writer to be appraised of, and she’s on her way with the Fab Life Series. After you read this review, click on the link and take a ride with me on a reality-check of life with Doing Your Own Thing. Why not? Remember reading heals the soul.
