Nick Goutier
(go-shay). On the outside, he is just your typical teenager with
an over-protective mother that smothers him at every turn. He loves
her dearly. On the inside he's not so typical. He is a boy with
a destiny he does not understand. His first order of the day is
to stay alive while everyone, including his own father, tries to
kill him.
Stay out of
trouble, stay in school, get good grades, and stay alive. All these
things are what a good parent tells their kids. But, when you're
not the typical teenager, it's not something you want to share with
your mother. She's not even aware of the mythical creatures that
go in and out of Sanctuary, the place where she works. Kyrian, Nick's
boss, is a Dark-Hunter. Nick can't tell his mom that either.
Nick has learned
divination and clairvoyance, how to kill zombies and raise the dead.
All these skills and he can't seem to keep a girlfriend or drive
a car. Unfortunately the one skill he needs the most is the hardest
one to master, survival. Nick must learn all he can to be able to
save everyone and everything he cares about, even himself. Will
he become a great hero, or will he become a destroyer?
I love the
way that Sherrilyn has been filling out Nick's character through
his books. It gives you such a greater understanding of why he is
the way he is. What you learn in the Dark-Hunter series is just
the tip of the iceberg. If you haven't read, or listened to, the
first two books in the Chronicles of Nick series please do. This
series is for young adults but adults will love it too. Holter Graham
does an amazing job of reading the story on the audio books. He
has a unique understanding of the characters in Sherri's books.
If you close your eyes while you're listening, you can almost see
the scenes play out in your mind. There is also a bonus interview
with him on the audio book. It's very enlightening. You won't want
to miss it. I can't wait for the next book in this series. Even
better, I can't wait till they finish making the movie about Nick.
It is still in pre-production, but hopefully it will be out by the
end of next year. It is being done by the same people that did
Lord of the Rings. Is that awesome, or what!
