Maximum's story finally comes to an end in Nevermore. James Patterson finishes the tale of the bird children with another wild adventure that finally determines their future. As the story began, Angel was captured and taken to a laboratory complex much like the school where they were created. The doctors there have been running tests on her. Next they showed her a film, the horrifying film of the surgery that they performed on Iggy that had blinded him. It was horrible and she didn't want to watch it, yet she couldn't stop. Slowly it dawned on her that they were planning to perform the same type of surgery on her eyes!

Meanwhile, the flock was experimenting with going to public school, trying to fit in and be normal. Of course, they were far from normal. Their wings were the most glaring difference. The one that adapted the best was Nudge, who seemed to be able to talk easily with her classmates about all the things a teenage girl is interested in. Max didn't care if she fit in or didn't fit. It mattered a lot to Nudge. She even had a boyfriend until he found out she was one of the bird kids. Then he freaked out and ran away.

Nevermore has a little twist to the ending, something not expected. The characters are changed from what they were when we first heard of Max and her flock. I wish they hadn't, but to go through all they went through at such a young age, the experiences might very well make them the kids they are now. They were much more endearing in the beginning.

The ending had to come soon, because the kids had changed too much. It was still a good story. Reader Rebecca Soler did a wonderful job with the characterizations. Give Nevermore a listen and enjoy.
