Patterson's
Confessions series has sixteen-year-old Tandy Angel as the
lead character. Her boyfriend, James, and brothers' Harry
and Hugo join in the mysteries. The mystery is written in
first person, and Tandy's updates read a bit like a diary.
In the first chapter, Tandy and boyfriend James reunite only
to be threatened by James' father. Tandy gives her boyfriend
a quick lesson in stand-your-ground, and he does, just before
he disappears. James' disappearance feeds doubts into their
relationship. Tandy heads back to her brothers who are in
Paris, too. The family's Grandmother, who disowned their parents,
is dead and the Last Will and Testament is about to be read.
Tandy reels at the outcome of the Will and their new home
in Paris. She learns more about her Grandmother and her late
sister Katherine in this mystery. While visiting the Louvre,
Tandy and Harry stumble on a mystery buried in time and lost
by fire. Then Harry is arrested, and later Hugo disappears
while out with his uncle Jacob. There is plenty to keep a
young mind busy in this mystery. The twist and turns will
have your head spinning. I'll never look at a black SUV the

Spoilers
abound which helps those of us reading an episode in this
series for the first time. The storyline begins with the ending
of the last title in the series. The conclusion of this mystery
maybe considered more of a continuance, as well
. It's
an interesting concept I've noticed Patterson using in couple
of other mystery series.
Actress
and AudioFile Earphones Award winner Lauren Fortgang narrates
the audio version of The Paris Mysteries. She effectively
expresses the strength and weakness of the Angel children
and the secrecies and wickedness of others. Lauren gives listeners
a balance of youth and grown-up narration. I think grown-ups
will enjoy listening to the audio version too.
