Girl, 13
A Global Snapshot of Generation E

by Starla Griffin

Take a trip around the world from the comfort of your favorite chair and meet some ordinary 13 year olds. Starla Griffin has compiled a vivid portrait of everyday life in over 30 different countries. Each girl tells her own story and answers questions such as: what do you talk about with your friends, do you help with chores at home, and do you use the internet.

Besides having a very interesting and well done premise, the layout of this book is simply amazing. Vivid colors, fantastic color photographs of the girls and their environment, as well as text boxes and bold headings make this book as fun to read as it is informative.

Each girl has her own section and a profile about herself. The girls also wrote essays about themselves and about their 'best day'. All of the essays are translated from their original language into English.

This book is definitely a prize and should be on the shelves of all public libraries, school libraries, and any classroom with 13 year old girls in it. What a fabulous portrait of a generation without borders! Hopefully there will be follow ups and a companion book for boys.
