Shoujo Manga are graphic-novel or comic book stories for teen girls—filled with brave heroines, cute boys, and character driven stories. This book and CD introduce teens to some of the elements of creating a Manga story of their own via computer. Though it gives only cursory attention to story creation, it goes into considerable detail on how to use Photoshop to create Manga illustrations with the images on the disk. This is definitely not a useful book if the user does not already have Photoshop (or at least Paint Shop Pro and experience using it) since more of the book is dedicated to image manipulation than to any other aspect. For a teen who is already into Manga creation but wants to begin working digitally, this would be a great help. The great variety of page layout templates should be very inspiring, as they offer great ideas for varying the look of the overall page. It may frustrate those just starting out with its limited characters, poses and accessories and the scarity of information on actually making a Manga story. Though the subtitle "everything you need" might be a bit of an overstatement, this would be a great tool for the Manga enthusiast or passionate budding artist looking to get into this unique form of storytelling. It's far from everything, but it is definitely nifty.
