Nathan Quist and the Curious Affair of the Crescent Earrings

by Adam Stuck

(Adam Stuck was only 17 when he won 4th place in the 2007 Tweener Time International Chapter Book Competition.  Teens from 20 states and 11 foreign countries entered this competition. Adam is from  Ecuador, South America, a student at Quito Alliance Christian Academy.)

Twelve-year old Daniel Reimer doesn't like school much, but when he meets Nathan Quist, an exchange student from England, all that changes. Nathan has a different way of looking at things. He notices everything.

Daniel has definitely noticed Laura Peters, who sits in the front seat in class, and notices when she doesn't  show up. Then Laura is found unconscious and locked in a closet at school. When she doesn't regain consciousness, Daniel and Nathan decide to figure out just who, or what caused Laura to be locked in the closet.

The plot gets complicated as several suspects are identified and then discarded. The boys are drawn into a complex mystery, and the villain tries to get Nathan sent back to England when their investigation gets too close for comfort. With only a few days left in Indiana, the boys must solve the mystery. And then they find out about the silver earrings shaped like crescent moons, and Laura's life hangs in the balance.

A marvelous first novel for Adam Stuck, the fast action and exciting characters make this mystery a sure-fire hit with reluctant readers.
