Luchi Ann has spent her entire life in a prison in Thailand with her American mother. But when her mother dies, Luchi is left with nowhere to go and nothing but mysteries connected with her mother. She sets off to find her place in the world and discovers adventure, danger, and the courage to persevere. The terrifying situation in which Luchi finds herself would capture the attention of any young reader -- how do you find your way in a world which you know nothing? Though Luchi experiences moments of paralyzing fear, the reader is never judgmental -- we know we wouldn't do any better. With the mix of exotic location, breathtaking suspense and lovely ending -- this really is a perfect tween novel. This is A.J. Paquette's first novel, and I'm definitely going to watch for her second after this excellent premier.
