Tintin, a reporter, and his Terrier dog Snowy get involved in international
intrigue after Tintin buys a model of a ship named The Unicorn.
The listener meets a host of characters as Tintin and Snowy solve
the riddle of The Unicorn.
Even though the book involves the serious business of solving a
crime, there are moments of humor especially when Haddock the link
to the whole mystery forgets key details about The Unicorn and his
family.
This audio version is obviously intended for very young readers
and the fact the story is done in chapter format helps these young
people follow the story more easily.
But more than the chapter approach, the narrator Nick Sullivan
makes the action really come alive. At all points he seems to be
saying by his voice inflection, “Now listen carefully. Some
important action is coming up.”
With individual chapters averaging four to five minutes and the
total listening time of 43 minutes, we have a CD that is an excellent
choice to introduce young listeners to literature in the audio format.
Even though the book is targeted for very young listeners, adults
can enjoy it also—I did. A movie version opened in theaters
on December 23, 2011.
