This is a rather lengthy picture book at 96 pages, but if you consider
what the authors were attempting to do it makes sense. Using a cartoon
format, humor, and interactive elements, the Haglers focus on the
“big ideas” found in the New and Old Testaments.
To pull young
readers into the book and make it interesting, there is a central
character named Patrick, who wonders why anyone would want to read
the Bible because it is so long and has so many words. Of course,
the minute he asks this question his “adventure” begins.
Moses arrives on the scene to act as the boy’s guide through
the main ideas of each part of the Bible.
You’ll
discover there is also a website the authors created that contains
more materials and fun things for the child to do, thus making the
reading of Hooked on the Book even more interactive.
This is a
book that can be enjoyed by an individual child, the entire family
or a whole group of youngsters. Those teaching Sunday School or
Bible classes to children may wish to consider using this volume
as a text, since it can be read and discussed by chapters. |
