This is another
title in the "Navigators" series of books that introduces
young readers to science. The book's beautifully designed, two page
spreads feature 3-D artwork and interesting facts that cover a wide
range of topics from earthquakes, volcanoes, glaciers, and deserts
to changing climate, rocks and minerals and earth's blanket.
You'll find
short paragraphs in each section that present information that is
meant to whet the youngster's appetite and make him/her want to
do further exploration of the topic by checking other sources. In
the book's "Investigate" section there are a few websites
listed that can be consulted for further research and reading.
There isn't
a lot of detail here but as a general introduction to earth science
and what it covers this is a very good picture book. After your
child has read the book a few times, ask him or her which topics
he/she would like to learn more about. At that point you can begin
looking for books with more detailed information and greater depth.
