Preacher's Fire
The First Mountain Man series, No. 4

by William W. Johnstone

You wouldn't think a mountain man would be comfortable in a big city and, actually, he's not. But in disguise and with his beard shorn, Preacher heads for St. Louis pretending to be a greedy hayseed from Ohio. His goal is to confront Shad Beaumont, a ruthless power broker intent on using fear and violence to take over the Western fur trade.

Preacher intends to derail the plan before Beaumont and his hired guns can leave the city, but the best-laid plans often go awry. This may not be a place where Preacher feels comfortable, but he certainly knows you have to play the hand you've been dealt. This is one game he can't afford to lose, so even if he's not on his home turf, Preacher antes up and goes all in to trump his adversary.

The novels in the First Mountain Man series just keep coming. The quality of the action remains solid as the central character overcomes one obstacle after another. If you are a western fan and haven't followed Preacher's adventures yet, perhaps it is about time you did! You won't be disappointed with this memorable hero who metes out his own special brand of western justice.
