The vicious Yellow Kerchief Gang is making life in the Powder River area of Wyoming quite unbearable for the local ranchers. None is perhaps having a worse time than Moreton Frewen, the owner of Powder River Cattle Company.

Not only is Frewen having his cattle rustled by the gang but the animals are ending up on the range land of another of his countrymen, Sir William Teasdale. The English nobleman wants to create a large cattle operation and he doesn't mind expropriating a fellow Brits' property.

Offered $5000 to deal with the problem and stop the rustling, Matt Jensen arrives at the spread intent on putting the Yellow Kerchief Gang out of business. But, when the gun play begins, Matt's going to have to be very careful because the gang has taken a young hostage. A British lad named Winnie who is visiting his uncle's ranch.

One misstep and a tragedy could eliminate an individual who one day will have a major role to play in British history. Imagine what would have happened if Winston Churchill hadn't been available to guide the English through the horrors of World War II!

As one would expect Matt gets the job done and sends young Winnie home with a souvenir of his exciting, western vacation. The .44 shell the youth takes with him returns to the United States fifty years later in a very unexpected manner, as you'll see, when you reach the end of this novel.

William Johnstone adds an interesting historical twist to this cowboy yarn.

Yes, Winston Churchill did have an American mother, Jennie Jerome, but I wouldn't read too much into this story. It is very entertaining but pure fiction!
