Private

By James Patterson and Maxine Paetro

James Patterson and Maxine Paetro team up again for another novel. Private takes Jack Morgan, a former Marine pilot, running an international investigation company.  Jack is forced to investigate three different cases at once: possible NFL gambling scandal, slayings of 13 school girls, and then the murder of his best friend’s wife who happens to be a former lover. Luckily Jack has a great staff of investigators to help investigate each of these crimes while he focuses on who would want to kill his former lover. Will he be able to solve all of these crimes or will he be forced to do the unthinkable when he discovers what really happens?

Private had too many mysteries to solve. It would have been a better read if it focused on one or maybe two of the cases instead of all three. Just when the reader is involved with one case, Private jumps to another case which can be very frustrating. The lack of focus continues throughout the  book.

The characterization of Jack Morgan and the other minor characters are done really well. Readers get a true sense of what drives the characters. Even though the organization is international, the story focuses in New York.
