Detective
Bennett is sent on a joint operation with another government
agency concerning POTUS. Instead of the usual car or foot
chase, Bennett and company take flight and try to bring down
an assassin by helicopter. This flight reminds me why I like
the Bennett character so much. Patterson gives him some of
the wittiest comebacks when interacting with other characters.
Bennett discovers someone is trying to infer with US politics,
in a deadly way, so he decides to take the lead and follow
some clues. The direction the storyline takes us is to back
to our old enemy, Russia. The suspense in the main thread
is intense and there are plenty of cliff hangers. The secondary
thread, Bennett’s teen son and his friend, reminds us
that life goes on in the Bennett family, even when Dad is
chasing down duo assassins. The action is nonstop, and the
audio version narrated by Actor Danny Mastrogiorgio gives
listeners that same edge-of-your seat ride Bennett has in
the helicopter. Mastrogiorgio is able to deliver both the
serious and humorous side of Michael Bennett. He effortlessly
digs deep to give a tough guy narration of the bad guys and
seamlessly lightens the mood for the occasional Bennett family
scene. Danny has narrated three other titles in the series
– Gone, Burn, and Alert . I think
Patterson has found his Michael Bennett in Danny Mastrogiorgio.
