Dreamwalker
Baxley Powell has two guests at her Georgia home, one of which
is Deputy Sam Mayes, a fellow dreamwalker. When she and Sam
are asked to investigate a suspicious fire, they discover
that the fire was caused by a meth lab and resulted in the
death of Mandy Patterson. Baxley learns the woman was cooking
meth in order to provide a better life for her teenage son,
Doodle.
Baxley is upset that the authorities prefer to concentrate
on the drug aspect of the fire, and because she’s a
mother and concerned about Doodle’s fate, Baxley visits
the woman on the other side of the Veil of Life. Meanwhile,
Doodle is placed in his aunt’s care, someone is casting
voodoo spells on Baxley, and Sam becomes even more determined
to protect Baxley in a case that grows more dangerous by the
minute.
Confound It is probably the best release in this
series to date, with an excellent plot filled with lots of
suspects with realistic motives and the return of several
wonderful characters. The real charm of this particular release
for me, however, was the growing relationship between Baxley
and Sam Mayes. They share a strong psychic connection and
make an excellent investigative team on both sides of the
Veil of Life. While they share a strong sexual attraction
and their developing romance heats up the pages, Baxter is
hesitant to commit until her husband’s death is confirmed.
Baxter’s concern for others shines through, as well
as her willingness to risk her life to save others, and numerous
surprises kept me guessing about the murderer’s identity.
While this book can stand on its own merit as an excellent
whodunit, readers will want to read the previous releases
in this series to get the full impact of this wonderful author’s
work.
