The
nuns live peacefully at Gwenafwy Abbey in Pryderi, a small
village in North Wales. Sister Agatha dreams of having the
mystery stories she writes published. She has an uncanny knack
for solving crimes in real life as well. After being key to
solving the murder of the Abbey’s sexton it is no surprise
that when the president of the Village Art Society, Tiffany
Reese, is found dead in the parish hall, Sister Agatha makes
it her mission to prove that she was murdered and to unearth
the killer.
I
was delighted to have the chance to visit with Sister Agatha
in Pryderi for the second time. Jane Willan has a way of setting
scenes that is utterly captivating. As a reader, I enjoy feeling
immersed in a small village and having a peek into the busy
lives inside the Abbey. Sister Agatha’s longtime friend,
Father Selwyn is her reluctant partner in sleuthing and the
crime-busting duo are as unlikely a pair as one could imagine.
There’s
nothing quite like a solidly written mystery to curl up with
on a cold winter’s day. Although murder is a serious
subject, there’s something about Sister Agatha that
makes me smile. In fact, while reading this book I thought
it might be interesting if she could fly as actress Sally
Field did in the 1960’s television show, “The
Flying Nun.”
There
is nothing to not like and everything to love about “The
Hour of Death.” Mystery lovers young and old, male and
female alike will enjoy this holiday read!
