from the Land of Stories Boxed Set is a guide from Red
Riding Hood, the queen and the Diaries of Old Mother Goose
as she traveled through time.
Queen Riding Hood decided to write a Guide after reading The
Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli. She tells readers/listeners
what her idea of a perfect reign is. She includes stories
about her granny, parents, her prince, and all that she has
done since she became queen. Red Riding Hood gives an amusing
narration of her guide that will make youngsters laugh. Some
sections seemed to go on and on, but the author saves them
with some cute one-liners.
Old Mother
Goose and Lester the Gander get to discover Other Worlds thanks
to the Fairy Godmother. Mother Goose begins her story in 100DA
(Dragon Age) where she meets the Fairy God Mother. We also
learn how she gets Lester. Colfer shifts to the Other World,
and its history. We relive our world history through the eyes
of Old Mother Goose. Some stories are shared with tongue-in-cheek
humor and others with a political message. Like Dr. Seuss,
Colfer has a wonderful imagination, but unlike Seuss, Colfer's
political views are clearly labeled. Young readers won't get
it, but the parents will.
Chris Colfer narrates the audio version. His narration of
these quirky fairytale characters amplifies the humor in his
stories. Adventures from the Land of Stories Boxed Set
is a fun addition to the Land of Stories series. The author
wisely left room for more stories.
