Abby Knight is back, but now she is Abby Knight Salvare. Marco
and Abby have just returned from their fabulous honeymoon
and are trying to work out any kinks in the newly formed state
of matrimony. Just little things, like a saggy mattress that
causes sleepless nights for Abby, or the too-small apartment
they are living in. Oh, and also whether or not they should
investigate a cold-case murder when a skeleton is found buried
in the basement of Down the Hatch, the bar Marco owns.
Marco wants to keep his bride safe, and does
not want her involved in yet another murder investigation.
Abby is itchy to dig for the truth, though, and her hackles
are up at the idea of Marco telling her what she can and cannot
do.
Meanwhile at Bloomers, the flower shop Abby
owns, she’s contending with her mother-in-law helping
out at the shop, and by helping I mean rearranging Abby’s
workroom. Adding to the keep Abby busy and out of trouble
mix, is Seedy, the three- legged dog Abby and Marco recently
adopted. Seedy is afraid of crowds and men (other than Marco,
of course), so she wants one or the other by her side at all
times.
When the bones are stolen, it becomes apparent
that there is a desperate killer on the loose. Will the police
give more priority to this cold case? Or will Marco and Abby
have to take steps to unearth the truth about what happened
before he (or she) decides to bury Marco and Abby too?
As always,
Kate Collins artfully grows her mystery from a seed to a flower
in full bloom, all the while drawing readers in to root for
Abby, Marco, Seedy and the rest of the cast of characters.
Throw in the Trowel is yet another example of what
a cozy mystery should be—entertaining, comedic, and
romantic, with a mystery that keeps you guessing until the
end.
