Kitala Bell mesmerizes those who listen to her play the violin in concerts around the world. Her music also soothes her when she has the uninvited visions of the future of nothing but pain and death for those she encounters. One night she decides to try and change one woman’s future. She tries to warn the woman of what she has seen. Kitala has no idea of the events she has put in motion by her actions. In the middle of chaos she discovers an unlikely hero. But, unknown to her, the hero, M’Cal, has orders of a different kind. Her fate is in his hands.

M’Cal has a voice that can seduce and hypnotize the way Kitala coaxes the magical music from her violin. However, he is a slave to a woman who magically compels him to do her will and she wants the powers that Kitala holds. Can Kitala’s music save him and herself?

This is the sixth in the Dirk and Steel series. As always Liu keeps you glued to the pages from start to finish. This book, as with the others, stands well on its own. Other members of the agency show up too. This story also gives you a look at another city. Each book focuses in a different part of the world. This one is Vancouver, BC. It is one reason I enjoy Liu’s books so much. You never know where she is going to take you. I have reviewed several of the Dirk and Steel novels here at MyShelf.com. Enjoy them all.
